SENEGAL BIRDS WATCHING

An estimated 3 million migratory birds pass through the protected areas of the Senegal River each year.

The importance of the coastline for resident and passing seabirds has become evident in recent years with the sighting of tens of thousands of migratory terns, gulls and shearwaters moving along the coastline. The avifauna of Senegal is known notably for its variety (with more than 650 species of birds recorded) with a very high concentration of certain bird species, water and marine species, including many palearctic migrants.
